By default, the PCIe interface is displayed as four virtual Ethernet interfaces. Two of them operate in pass-through mode to 25G SFP28 slots. Two other virtual PCIe Ethernet interfaces are connected to the Gigabit Ethernet port to provide access to the management interface. The user has complete freedom in configuring all interfaces and parameters, since the device works on the full version of the RouterOS system.
In order for the CCR board to function as a network adapter, a new mode of end-to-end data transmission has been implemented. In practice, this is FastForward/FastPath mode, which additionally sends information about the connection status of the equipment.
This network card can achieve data transfer speeds of up to 100 Gbps using Jumbo frames. This ensures that the CCR card will not be a bottleneck in most server configurations.
With 4GB of RAM, 128MB of NAND memory, and a powerful quad-core 64-bit ARMv8 processor, this device can handle a variety of tasks: firewalls, user management, access control to home media and file servers, and even basic data processing – without the need for a separate router.
However. this format has some limitations that should be considered. The CCR NIC takes some time to load compared to ASIC-based solutions. If the host system boots before the CCR card, it will not be recognized as an available device. Therefore, you need to set an initialization delay for PCIe devices in the BIOS or manually reinitialize them from the host system.
