The Noctua NF-P14s fan of the redux series draws attention to itself with two innovative technologies: in addition to the use of a special low-noise shape of the blades, which is noticeable to the naked eye, a self-stabilizing hydrodynamic type of bearing (SSO) was implemented.
The main difference of the SSO bearing from other types of hydrodynamic bearings is the installation of an additional magnet that supports the rotor axis. Usually, hydrodynamic bearings are centered only during rotation due to the gyro effect. Therefore, at the moment of starting the fan, there is usually some beating of the shaft against the sleeve. In the SSO bearing, the axis of the impeller is stabilized in the center, even before the moment of starting, due to the magnet, thus preventing the deformation of the sleeve. Thanks to the use of a SINGLE bearing, it is possible to reduce noise and increase the service life of the fan.
