Twisted pair (English twisted pair) is a type of communication cable, it is one or more pairs of insulated conductors twisted together (with a small number of turns per unit length), covered with a plastic sheath. The winding of the conductors is carried out in order to increase the degree of connection between the conductors of the same pair (electromagnetic interference affects both wires of the pair equally) and further reduce electromagnetic interference from external sources, as well as mutual inductions during the transmission of differential signals. To reduce the connection of individual pairs of the cable (periodic convergence of conductors of different pairs) in UTP cables of category 5 and above, the wires of the pairs are twisted at different pitches. Currently, due to its cheapness and ease of installation, it is the most common solution for building wired (cable) local networks.
