SC/UPS optical adapters (sockets) are designed for connecting or connecting connectors installed on optical connecting and mounting cords.
The most popular, due to their low cost, are adapters for polished UPS connectors. SC-type adapters are always pass-through (that is, connectors connect to them from both sides) and also serve to precisely center the connector tips. The tips are centered in special bushings, which for multi-mode adapters are usually made of bronze, and for single-mode adapters - of ceramics. The body of the SC/UPS adapter is made of plastic in different colors: beige for multimode applications, blue for single-mode applications. The SC/UPS adapter (simplex) has one sleeve on each side for connecting the appropriate type of connector. The adapter is attached to the patch panel using a metal stopper and, additionally, with screws.
SC/UPC adapters are installed in the patch panel of optical crossovers, optical boxes, active equipment, measuring devices and are most often used on Ethernet networks.
