The two groups of floating optical elements of the autofocus system are positioned using the innovative DDSSM (Direct Drive SSM) ultrasonic motorized drive system, which is responsible for the exact location of heavy groups of optical elements and allows for full-frame macro photography. This system is characterized by silent operation, which makes it ideal for video and photo shooting of insects and animals. It is believed that sharp macro shots can only be obtained using a tripod, but the built-in optical image stabilizer OSS (Optical SteadyShot) allows you to take sharp macro shots even when shooting handheld. The positioning of the massive lens of the optical stabilizer is performed by a linear motorized drive. Due to this, effective image stabilization is achieved.
Usually, to switch between manual and automatic autofocus modes, you need to take your eyes off the viewfinder, as a result of which you will then have to re-compose the frame and think over the composition. However, thanks to this lens's specially positioned focus ring, switching between manual and automatic autofocus is a simple matter of switching the button to the desired position. The non-slip surface ensures reliable operation. The focus hold button is conveniently located on the lens body. When it is pressed, the focus is instantly fixed in a certain position, which remains until the button is released. The focus hold button can be used to fix the focus when shooting in continuous autofocus mode.
If there is an internal focusing system, only the internal elements of the lens change position, while the length of the lens does not change. Due to this, the convenience of working with the lens increases, the autofocusing process is accelerated, and it is possible to achieve sharpness even at the minimum focusing distance. The thread for the filter in the front part of the lens does not rotate, which is an advantage when using a polarizing filter. The medium focal length of this telephoto lens provides an ideal working distance for macro photography, allowing you to easily shoot insects and other objects that can be difficult to get close to without spooking.
